One of Adrian Fenty's objectives is to take over the District of Columbia school system. Fenty feels no one is held accountable when things go wrong in the current school system. One Public Relation example is no heat in some of the District of Columbia public schools. The way this is being presented is the schools have no heat but the current structure of the DC schools cannot react. Fenty would like the powers of the school board to be reduced and he assume the leadership role. If he or the Mayor's office holds the leadership role, person can be held accountable for what is not done.

Recently, parents from all parts of the city spoke out against this change. Some claim some schools will be lost to real estate schemes. Other feel the school board is not the problem and , this is bigger then a management change. The DC council has turned a blind eye to this problem and, this only further anger persons who spoke out against the plan to hand over the school system to the Mayors office. This anger led to person attacks on members of the DC council and the Mayors office. If one reads the quotes based on a Washington report, you will see how some of the parents felt about this change.

"You want to give our schools to someone who doesn't have an educational background," Whiting shouted to Thomas and Barry in the hallway.

"We do not want [the school system] to be in the hands of some hip-hop mayor," Mohammed said referring to the 36-year-old Fenty.

During the hearing, Mohammed had dressed down the council members one by one. She questioned whether council member Mary M. Cheh (D-Ward 3), a newcomer to politics, knew enough about public schools to make an informed decision and she recalled Barry's past drug use.
