To those of you that may not have heard the term GO-GO music, the definition is as follows. Go-go is a popular music subgenre associated with funk that originated in the Washington, D.C., area during the mid-60s to late-70s. It remains primarily popular in the Washington metropolitan area as a uniquely regional music style. This music has gained a world wide fan base.
Go-go music is still strong with in United States. Go-go bands are still able to generate a living over the last 50 years by performing their music and creating music for sale or streaming. The music has received mainstream success with various bands and members of bands appearing on talk shows, movies and concerts. The current most popular names in Go-Go music are Chuck Brown, Sugar Bear , Rear Essences, Junk Yard and Anwan Glover of Back Yard Band. Glover has been apart of national projects as an actor. Anwan has appeared in The Wire, 12 years a slave, and The Deuce .
With all this history, there is a rumor floating around that a GO-GO festival is coming to Las Vegas mixed with some HIP HOP. One of the major head liners with in Go-Go will be Sugar Bear. If this is true, this event will also show case many other bands and may be come an annual event for supporters of Go Go music. This future annual event should received alot of support.
At this point in time, the fans of Go-Go music will have to wait untill the official press release is sent out. Until then, the fans should save their money because summer is around the corner.
