The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc., (CBCF) welcomed a class of nine Fellows, all post-graduate individuals with a variety of interests and professional backgrounds. Each share a common commitment to public service.

The CBCF Fellowship program was created in 1983 to increase the number of African Americans working on professional staffs in the U.S. Congress. Today it has gained the reputation of being one of the most competitive and top public policy training experiences in Washington, D.C.

During the 20-month fellowship, CBCF Congressional Fellows work as full-time legislative aides in congressional offices and during their second year transition to congressional committees. The committee placement complements their experience in a member's office and provides the fellows with a full view of the legislative process. The fellows receive a salary and full benefits through CBCF. Fellows are required to organize policy briefings and roundtable discussions; attend seminars on policy, politics, and leadership; produce a research paper and create and implement a community service project. Areas of interest can include education, agriculture, business/finance, criminal justice, defense, environment, government reform, housing, labor and other social issues. Last year's class of fellows performed their first international community service project - helping to construct homes in Cape Town, South Africa.

In addition to its CBCF Congressional Fellows, the Foundation hosts three additional fellowship programs:

The Congressional Fellows Program on Energy targets early career-policy professionals who are committed to contributing to energy policy.

The Donald M. Payne Fellow targets professionals who are committed to advancing positive global change.

CBCF Louis Stokes Fellows seeks professionals who are committed to eliminating health disparities nationally and globally.
