According to a report by blackmediascoop.com, a professor at Murray State was suspended because of statement made in the classroom.

Murray State political science professor, Mark Wattier has been suspended after he told a freshman African American student, Arlene Johnson “Slaves Were Always Late” after she showed up on time to a class he was starting early. Johnson says she came to class early to find that a film was already in progress. She said that after class, she and another student asked professor Mark Wattier why the film had started before the official start time of the class, and she said he told them that when screening films, he typically started them 10-15 minutes before class. The students said they didn’t know and the damn professor allegedly said ‘Well, it’s OK, I expect it of you guys anyway… the slaves never showed up on time, so their owners often lashed them for it. I just don’t have the right.” Johnson says she went to the Office of Equal Opportunity the same day to file a complaint. The EOO later informed her of Wattier’s suspension.
